Dear Aldine ISD Community,
¡Se acabó! Hispanic Heritage Month has concluded, yet as we enter the middle of October and the holidays are fast approaching, I am reminded of the strong sense of community that defines Aldine ISD. This month has already brought us many reasons to celebrate, and I am excited to share some recent highlights.
We are thrilled that our Board of Trustees continues to lead with distinction. Congratulations to Trustee Rose Avalos on her re-election to the State Association Board and to Trustee Dr. Viola M. García for participating in the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Institute on Emergency Preparedness in Houston. Their dedication ensures our district remains at the forefront of educational advocacy and leadership.
Monthly Observances
October is full of meaningful observances, including National Principals Month. We are incredibly grateful for our principals’ tireless work and leadership in creating safe and welcoming learning environments. I encourage you to show appreciation for their dedication. It comes down to the people behind an organization that make it great.
Earlier this month, we recognized our custodians who keep our 80-plus schools and facilities clean and safe, making them a great place to learn, teach, and lead. We also observed our coaches — athletic, academic, and instructional coaches. Thank you for all you do on the field and in the classroom!
The monthly observances also highlight the various programs and services we offer students, like school lunches. Did you know all students eat free in Aldine ISD this year? Our child nutrition services team does an excellent job serving nutritious meals daily. Last year alone, they served over 4.2 million breakfasts and 7.5 million lunches to AISD students. We support our dyslexic students, ensuring that children learn to read and write and access the curriculum to maximize their potential. Got questions about applying to college? We have you covered! Visit our Scholarship Office or Guidance, Counseling and Student Support Services online.
System of Great Schools
It’s hard to believe this is my seventh year as district superintendent. I am so proud of the work we’ve accomplished together during that time. These include the increased opportunities in advanced academics, college, career and military readiness (CCMR), and Choice Schools and CTE programs. We recently hosted a System of Great Schools learning lab for public school districts, where we shared our quest to transform educational systems like the work accomplished in our two Accelerating Campus Excellence model programs at Worsham and Goodman elementary schools, our college preparatory experience at the Aldine Young Women’s Leadership Academy, and the HEAL Program at Nimitz High School, specializing in five medical pathways developed in partnership with Memorial Hermann — these are only a tiny sampling of all the options we offer students. While we know there is more work to do, we are focused on increasing the experiences so that students can graduate with choices and opportunities. Thank you for your focus, passion, and commitment to this work. You are a huge part of our journey and the success of our students.
Remember to Vote This Election Season
I am so proud to see campuses encouraging students to register to vote and to state leaders like Congresswoman Sylvia García for visiting with students to talk about civic engagement.
The election season is upon us, with early voting starting October 21 and running through November 1; Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. I cannot stress enough the importance of your vote. Your vote is your voice, crucial for shaping our community and schools’ future. I urge everyone to exercise their right to vote and make their voices heard.
Inside the Newsletter
I encourage you to read the latest district newsletter, Aldine Connection, which includes active links to stories and important date information. Learn about the Powell Foundation’s donation to foster reading and bedtime routines for our youngest learners, the $20,000 grant MacArthur High School’s football program received from Texans CEO Cal McNair, and the tennis teams that secured spots in the playoffs.
Follow Us on Social Media
Follow Aldine ISD and me on X to see all the exciting happenings in our schools and district. You’ll find me visiting campuses, speaking with organizations, and engaging in our community. You can also follow AISD on Facebook.
Stay Engaged
As we progress, I encourage everyone to stay engaged and continue participating in the many events across our district. Your active participation, whether supporting our College Night or cheering for our teams at sporting events, makes our community strong and vibrant. You are integral to our district’s success, and your continued engagement is deeply valued.
Choice Schools Festival on October 26
I look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming Choice Schools Festival on Saturday, October 26, at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is an excellent opportunity for families to choose the best school experience for their children. Over 30 Choice Schools offer a wide variety of programs for prekindergarten to high school students. The Choice School program is open to students living inside and outside of Aldine ISD, so I encourage everyone to attend and make the best choice for their child’s education.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our students’ success. Together, we make an #AldineImpact.
